Good Morning & Happy New Year!
I know we’re all about New Year’s Resolutions right now–or maybe we’re all against them (aren’t they just a tad bit old news?). I also know a lot of us want to make efforts this year to get healthier, and that’s great!
I actually love the New Year, and I personally love making resolutions. I usually pick a theme for the whole year. This year my theme is to get a whole health team behind me, like a Dentist, Doctor, Chiropractor and BCT because I’m in a new city and we all need support, you know? Do you have a New Year’s Resolution?
Alright, let’s dive in and talk about detoxes and cleanses, because I’m sure you’re hearing that word everywhere, and are totally sick of it. Fair enough. First of all, what is a detox? Is it just hooey or does it really make you healthier?
Let me let you in on a little secret: “detox” is just a buzzword. It can mean anything, really! There’s no set of rules deciding what a detox is or is not. Which is why you’ll see it everywhere, and everybody does it a little differently.
So why on Earth am I an advocate for them?
Why Do You Need To Detox? (And you do)
Because detoxing is an ancient practice that has been used around the world to bring health to the body for centuries. Every tradition has it’s own rituals and practices to help the body detoxify. From fasting, to herbal remedies, to taking hot baths, to massage–we see that historically, people everywhere have had some form of detoxification, often following the rhythms of nature.
So should we do it, just because other people do it? Not necessarily, but it does make me think there might be something to it. Even if that something is as simple as bringing an inward attention to the self.
The problem with detoxing and cleansing as we tend to see it now, is that you can’t expect a small span of time (like two weeks) to make up for the bad habits you keep throughout the rest of the year. Because then you aren’t dealing with the root of the problem, you’re only temporarily improving the symptoms (like weight loss and increased energy).
Which is why I’m really a fan of using a seasonal detox (fall, winter, spring and summer) to not only support your liver, kidneys, stomach, and adrenal glands–from stress, environmental toxins, pollution, poor diet and lack of sleep–which I do think is essential for good health by the way, but to also use this time seasonally to check-in with yourself, see how you’re feeling, how you could put yourself and your health first, and how you can make substantial, long-lasting habits to feel your best.
So, that is why I created this new online 14-day program: Winter Glow Reset. I really think everyone could benefit from eating whole foods, and incorporating practices to help the body work more efficiently. I wanted to have a program that not only gives you the results you’re looking for, but doesn’t make you feel guilty. Which is why I’m calling this a reset–because you’ll be getting in tune with your body and finding out what works for you personally. This is not a fear-based program, I won’t be scaring you into eating healthy, or making you feel guilty. We won’t be talking about “clean” eating or “bad” foods, because I know how harmful that attitude can be. I want you to be empowered, and I want you to be excited it to take care of yourself! You deserve it!
So I highly encourage you to check out the Winter Glow Reset program, which you can find here, so you can make steps to feel amazing physically and emotionally.
