SWEET POTATO GNOCCHI & A VISIT FROM A FRIEND

December 13, 2015 by Tisha Leave a Comment

☃ #seasonsgreetings
Hello, hello!

I have no fancy pictures for you today (or ever, for that matter). Today, I have only pictures from my phone–a brief recap of the last couple days. My bestie-best-bestie came to visit me here in Toronto, which was much needed because I know all of three people here, and one of them is my cat.

We went to the Christmas Market and drank mulled wine. We watched Allie inhale a turkey leg (and then, like vultures, Bestie Becca and I ate what was leftover. Weirdly amazing). I also had poutine–who knew that was a Christmas food?!

We went to Starving Artist and had waffles. We went to the Beet Restaurant and had green smoothies. We ate a lot, and I’d say that’s a sign of a great friendship. We also drank some wine, and I made dinner: sweet potato gnocchi. Now I don’t like to toot my own horn  These turned out really well for my first time making gnocchi! Gluten-free, at that! I was inspired by my Sous Chef at Impact Kitchen, who on a whim the other night made butternut squash gnocchi with thyme browned butter.

I got this recipe from Heartbeet Kitchen and it only has 5 INGREDIENTS. What? Yes please! It was really easy to follow, which is wonderful, because of wine.  I tossed it in pan fried panchetta and topped it with parmesan–and I was so happy with how it turned out!

Unfortunately these pictures don’t really do it justice, but I was not going to whip out my camera when I was having such a lovely time! Sometimes life trumps social media, you know? Only sometimes though. It was a really wonderful couple of days, and it involved a lot of great food. And to me, good food with good friends? That’s pretty healthy. Especially for the soul. It’s okay to indulge!

Anyway, this is just a check-in–the world has been crazy. I have exams this week, and I’m working lots (both at the restaurant, and on my own)! I’m SO excited for the projects I’m setting up for 2016, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Happy holidays, my friends! Leave a comment and let me know how you’re celebrating with your friends and family this month, and be sure to subscribe to my blog if you haven’t already!

Dairy & hormones—friend or foe? There’s a lo Dairy & hormones—friend or foe?

There’s a lot of mixed info out there, but here’s the truth:

❌ Dairy doesn’t *always* mess with hormones.

✅ Some people are sensitive to it, while others digest it just fine.

✅ Full-fat dairy (like yogurt) has probiotics, calcium & vitamin D—which can actually help PMS!

The key? Listen to your body. If dairy triggers symptoms like bloating or cramps, you might want to try temporarily cutting it out to see how you feel.

But if you’ve been told you need to cut out dairy for your hormone health, just know there’s a lot of benefits to incorporating it into your diet! #hormonehealth #integrativenutrition #periodproblems
✨ Can diet help with endometriosis? ✨ Endomet ✨ Can diet help with endometriosis? ✨

Endometriosis affects about 10% of women and people assigned female at birth worldwide, and is one of the most common causes of pelvic pain for women of reproductive age.

While we still need more research in this area, some foods might be helpful in lowering inflammation, getting rid of extra estrogen and avoiding the triggers that make endometriosis symptoms worse.

✨Did you know?✨

There’s a link between IBS and endometriosis: they often co-exist together. If you struggle with symptoms like bloating or stomach pain, it might be worth checking for food intolerances, celiac disease or IBS.
