Fall is easily my favourite season of the year. I think it’s most people’s favourites–and for good reason. I think we have a lot to be excited about: cooler weather, reuniting with friends (at school) or family (during the holidays). We’re more engaged with our community: going for walks in the park, grabbing hot chocolate or apple cider with a friend, apple and pumpkin picking with our partners. We can take this time to reflect on ourselves and our lives: the year is coming to an end–how did it go? Did we end up where we thought we would? Have we done our best with what we were given?
We can be more apt to express gratitude: did we spend special moments with loved ones? If not, did we reach out to let them know we were thinking of them?
We are thankful for our family, our friends, and our furry friends. We are thankful that relationships we thought wouldn’t last, did. And we are thankful to let go of relationships that didn’t serve us.
Now is the time to mindful of what is happening around you–to participate in your own life. To engage, and be present. But don’t overwhelm yourself. You don’t have to do everything right now. Fall is beautiful, and we don’t need to rush through things to say we did. Everyday doesn’t have to be a Starbucks specialty drink day (although they are lovely when they do turn up). The point isn’t to do it all and to scratch off a check list. The point is to do some, but feel it.
Feel the Earth changing, shifting. Be connected to the seasons that govern us.
Breathe in the crisp air. Bite into the crisp apple. Get cozy. Get local. Bake something from scratch. Share it with someone.
Breathe in the crisp air.
As I said, Fall is easily my favourite season. Happy Thanksgiving.
