Glowing Skin Smoothie

Glowing Skin Smoothie | The Nourished Mind

This month is all about skin health, so naturally there had to be a glowing skin smoothie! This feels like a no-brainer, because healthy skin starts from within, and a smoothie is a great way to cram a bunch of nutrient-dense foods into one meal!

I love starting the day with a smoothie, because you’re starting with your best foot (food?) forward. This Glowing Skin Smoothie is super hydrating, flavourful and chockfull of good-for-your-skin ingredients.

I also want to say, that if you’re looking to support your skin health, a smoothie alone is not going to cut it. After all, health is built on everyday habits. This means not only the foods you eat, but your lifestyle. If you’re looking to support your skin, you need to go deeper.

You also want to make sure you’re getting enough sleep, and protecting your skin from the sun.  I learned way later in life the importance of SPF, so make sure you’re taking a holistic approach to your skin. Everyday habits make all the difference. You also want to pay attention to what you’re putting on your skin (avoiding irritants and harsh chemicals).

Nutrition is also really important. You want to make sure you’re avoiding foods that irritate your skin (check out this post to learn more about what foods you should limit) and getting lots of healthy nutrients like vitamin C, collagen, antioxidants and omega 3s. If you want to learn more about what foods you should eat for skin health, check out my post 10 Foods For Glowing Skin.

If you’re struggling with hormonal acne, book a Hormone Health Intensive session with me. In these 90-min sessions we deep dive into your health and hormones and create a protocol to help support your hormones and gut from the inside out–two aspects that are key for healthy skin! How To Make It

Super easy: we’re taking all the ingredients and blending it together! This recipe is a little thinner, and therefore more likely to separate, so if you want it to be thicker, you can always add half a banana into the mix.

Key Ingredients

Mixed Berries: I love berries. They’re rich in antioxidants, low glycemic, help to balance blood sugar and help to fight inflammation—all of which contribute to good skin health. (1,2,3) I often use a frozen blend of blueberries, raspberries and cherries!

Spinach: is rich in antioxidants, like vitamins A and C. Vitamin C is important to help with the uptake of collagen to support skin elasticity.

Coconut Water: Not only is coconut water really hydrating, it also contains vitamin C and antioxidants, it can also help to balance blood sugar—both of which can help with improving skin appearance. (4,5)

Avocado: Avocados are rich in vitamins C and E, as well as monounsaturated fats, and research shows that they can help to protect skin from sun damage and inflammation, which can lead to wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity. (6)

Collagen: supplementing with collagen peptides has been shown to decrease the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin elasticity. (7) I’m a big fan of Vital Proteins, and it’s the collagen I’ve been using for years. They’ve recently updated their original collagen peptides formula to now include vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, both of which can help boost skin health!

Flax: flax seeds contain omega-3s and lignans, which can help to reduce inflammation and balance hormones that lead to acne. (8, 9)

Glow Inner Beauty Essential: made with probiotics, antioxidants and b vitamins, this supplement is meant to make your skin glow by supporting the gut and reducing inflammation. The probiotic-rich formula, with a delicious berry flavour, is packed with easily digested, super-charged nutrients that are absorbed quickly and effectively by your cells to promote collagen synthesis and support skin radiance. You can get it here at Detox Market.

Substitutes

You definitely don’t have to use expensive powders like collagen and Glow Inner Beauty if it’s out of your budget. Good quality whole foods will get you far. That being said, these are awesome products, that if you do have space for, can really help to boost your skin!

Don’t like coconut water? Don’t fret, you can use almond milk or water no problem!

Skincare is very important and for that, we use many skincare products like vitamin c serum, sunscreen, and many more. But a good diet is as important as these products. And these foods that you have mentioned will definitely boost beauty.

Dairy & hormones—friend or foe? There’s a lo Dairy & hormones—friend or foe?

There’s a lot of mixed info out there, but here’s the truth:

❌ Dairy doesn’t *always* mess with hormones.

✅ Some people are sensitive to it, while others digest it just fine.

✅ Full-fat dairy (like yogurt) has probiotics, calcium & vitamin D—which can actually help PMS!

The key? Listen to your body. If dairy triggers symptoms like bloating or cramps, you might want to try temporarily cutting it out to see how you feel.

But if you’ve been told you need to cut out dairy for your hormone health, just know there’s a lot of benefits to incorporating it into your diet! #hormonehealth #integrativenutrition #periodproblems
✨ Can diet help with endometriosis? ✨ Endomet ✨ Can diet help with endometriosis? ✨

Endometriosis affects about 10% of women and people assigned female at birth worldwide, and is one of the most common causes of pelvic pain for women of reproductive age.

While we still need more research in this area, some foods might be helpful in lowering inflammation, getting rid of extra estrogen and avoiding the triggers that make endometriosis symptoms worse.

✨Did you know?✨

There’s a link between IBS and endometriosis: they often co-exist together. If you struggle with symptoms like bloating or stomach pain, it might be worth checking for food intolerances, celiac disease or IBS.
